UNCUT

Editor’s Letter
In the somewhat inevitable way of these things – lists of anything being inescapably contentious – our 100 Greatest Debut Albums will, over the long haul, provoke various levels of argument, disagreement and the occasional bout of theatrical eyeball-rolling.

Elsewhere, we bring exciting news this issue of arguably the year’s most eagerly awaited releases – the apparently mind-blowing new Bob Dylan album, Modern Times (anything to do with the Chaplin film, we wonder), which Uncut has been flown out to New York to hear, in highly secretive circumstances. You can read our first impressions on page 6, and expect much, much more on it next time around.

Finally, look out for Uncut this summer at the launch of Latitude, the newest and, in our opinion, liveliest addition to the festival circuit, where we have our own stage. Latitude, presented by the Mean Fiddler, is billed as more than just a music festival – a boast it lives up to admirably, with a fantastically diverse range of events running from July 14-16 with DJs, comedy, cabaret, theatre, poetry, film and book readings. There’ll be some brilliant music, too, with a bill that features Antony And The Johnsons, Snow Patrol, Mogwai, The Zutons, Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye, Lemonheads and Mercury Rev on the main stage. Mystery Jets, The Organ, Regina Spektor, Larrikin Love and Howling Bells are among the acts doing the honours on the Uncut stage.
